General characteristics

This  Automatic Assembly Line  was developed to carry out the automatic assembly, inspection and separation of plastic components, with the minimum of human intervention; just enough for the supply of parts in the automatic feeders and the extraction of complete boxes inspected.

In this case it was possible to automate an assembly process with high repeatability and inspection in a way that maximizes production and error detection, reducing variability, bottlenecks and obstructions, as well as providing a consistent quality output. In the event of a problem, the system enables visual and safety inspection; it also allows the tracking of all the actions carried out to locate the origin of the problem, thus facilitating its resolution.

Architecture

This line is made up of a turntable, a housing feeder and a front holder feeder.

The main component is the turntable that rolls clockwise and has 8 stations with the following functions:

  1. Indexing and insertion of the housing part;
  2. Color comparison between the housing part with the predetermined color in the cycle settings;
  3. Inserting the front support piece;
  4. Reservation;
  5. Validation of the assembly of the front support piece and inspection of possible defects resulting from the injection process;
  6. Parts extraction for the NOK box;
  7. Parts extraction for OK box;
  8. Empty nest validation.

In this area is the touch screen where the application works, through which it is possible to interact with all the equipment, configure the automatic cycle, monitor and coordinate all the equipment in the three areas.

Front Support and Housing Feeders Area

Here are the part feed hooks (it’s not entirely clear to me how to translate giraffes in this context) for the vibrating drums, the vibrating drums, the part feed mats for the turntable area and their respective controls. The function of these feeders is to collect a large number of pieces randomly inserted into the box of each hook by the operator, their correct orientation, given by the vibrating drum, and the transport oriented until the respective indexing in the area of ​​the turntable. . The auxiliary electrical panels in this area are used to exchange information on the production status of the assembly line with the factory, and to protect the controls of the electric actuators of the conveyor belt and of the vibratory systems.

On the left side of the line are the boxes OK (for parts in good condition) and NOK (for those rejected parts), where the parts are deposited after the assembly process, as a result of the post-assembly inspection.
