ROBOT ABB YUMI MOTOR INSERTION

EIIT presents for Productronica Innovation Award 2019 this project that collects the three leading concept that currently are needed in automatization industry, specifically:

  1. Robotic
  2. Artificial Vision
  3. Collaborative

To get this goal, the concept mounts a real piece from one of our customers.

This subset is constituted by 4 pieces that will be mounted automatically by our project.

Currently this subset is mounted semi-automatically and finally will constitute the acoustic warning integrated in most of the vehicles in operation.

INNOVATION DESCRIPTION

The innovation is that we collect the main concepts requested currently by the automatization industry: Artificial Vision, Robotic and Collaborative.

All the pieces provided by the supplier are going to be fed in bulk and their position in an XY plane will be chaotic so that several artificial vision systems will be needed to indicate to the robotic arm which is the position of the most optimal piece to be removed and proceed to its manipulation.

Obviously, the feeding of these pieces by means of a bulk hopper system means that not all the pieces have an optimal position for their collection. In this sense, one of the elements included in our project is a development of the OMRON company known as AnyFeeder (This device combines the concept of feed hopper and repositioning table).

The main process is described below:

  • The pieces to be fed are deposited in a controlled feed hopper.
  • The hopper feeds a repositioning table which, by means of a controlled vibration system, makes the pieces vibrate so that their position varies.
  • By means of a camera arranged in the upper part of the vibrating table, the pieces are identified in optimal position to be picked up by the robot or otherwise the signal is sent to the table to reposition the pieces.

The advantage of this system, unlike the precise feeding elements that exist in the market, is not being linked to the geometry of the piece. Simply by training the vision system (ARTIFICIAL VISION) to recognize the new piece, the system will be ready to manipulate this new element.

Although the project in a real phase of industrialization would require as many AnyFeeder as parts to be fed, to simplify its development we will use an AnyFeeder to feed the connector and we will predispose the rest of the pieces (base, coil and cover) in position chaotic on an XY table but with the manipulation face in the correct position.

Therefore, we will have 4 parts collection areas supervised by 4 independent 5Mpx cameras that will be connected to an OMRON specific vision controller model FH-5050-2. The mission of this controller is to take independent images of each of the 4 parts feeding areas and tell the robot (ROBOTIC) the position of each of them to proceed with its manipulation.

Finally, the robot responsible for handling parts is a development of the company ABB model Yumi IRB1400. It is a fully collaborative (COLLABORATIVE), double-arm robot and allows the manipulation of pieces of up to 500gr in weight.

According to this layout, the assembly process will be as follow.

  1. We collect connector and position on assembly tool
  2. We collect base and mount on connector in assembly tool
  3. We collect coil and mount on connector and base
  4. Finally, we close the assembly with the lid

LINE MANAGER – Boosting Automated InLine Testing for Production Lines

  • Suitable for automated in-line testing with several PCBs working in parallel
  • Smart traffic management of PCBs according to the real needs of the production line

LINE MANAGER is an open platform software solution developed by EIIT for automated in line testing solution. It is a highly scalable solution to manage several automated in-line equipment from low production to high production demand of PCBs. LINE MANAGER controls all the functions of the production test equipmentand works like a smart traffic management of PCBs, optimizing the flow of the PCBs according to the configuration required for each station and each PCB model.

Schleuniger wins the 2015 Innovation Award

Success for Schleuniger, EIIT partner, at the productronica 2015 trade fair in Munich. The CoaxCenter 6000 received the productronica Innovation Award 2015. It is the first machine system that processes micro-coaxial cables fully-automatically and with high precision.

The Swiss Schleuniger Group celebrated a great success at the productronica 2015 trade fair in Munich, Germany. The company’s CoaxCenter 6000 won the productronica Innovation Award 6000 in the Cables, Coils and Hybrids Cluster prevailing against renowned competitors.

The CoaxCenter 6000 is the world’s first and currently the only machine system that enables micro-coaxial cables to be processed fully-automatically and with high precision. On behalf of the award panel, Christian Stoppok from the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (ZVEI) emphasized that the panel was particularly convinced by the innovative combination of a maximum degree of precision, the quality monitoring, and the processing volume.

Schleuniger CEO Christoph Schüpbach was extremely pleased about the prize and put this important award into a comprehensive context: “Our DNA drives us to perfect cable processing, to even better understand the current and future requirements of the industry, and respond with convincing solutions. Our CoaxCenter 6000 is just such a solution. It won the productronica Innovation Award in representation for the entire range of Schleuniger innovations,” Christoph Schüpbach makes clear. Christoph Schüpbach is also pleased “that our employees were rewarded for their continuous and outstanding commitment.”

The CoaxCenter 6000 was first presented to the public this spring at the Internepcon exhibition in Tokyo, where it attracted considerable interest amongst the visitors. The machine was designed to fulfil the modern communication society’s increased data transfer demands in terms of data volume and data security and the resulting growing requirements on antenna components. As a result, assemblers of such cables are increasingly coming up against limits, because the required length tolerances can hardly be fulfilled using manual or semi-automatic tools. Hence, the cable ends must be checked systematically and without errors. In particular, it was important to exclude human sources of error, because even the slightest contact with the cable end can bend it and render the cable unusable.

The CoaxCenter 6000 systematically integrates and automates all the confection steps on a highly flexible machine platform. For the customer, this results in numerous benefits:

  • The machine offers the highest degree of stripping accuracy of all the solutions that are currently available on the market
  • Fully automatic monitoring of the stripping results using QCam 360
  • Production protocol with all the relevant process parameters including 3D images
  • Maximum degree of flexibility with regard to the integration of additional process steps, such as crimping, tinning, and window stripping

In addition to these technological and qualitative innovations, the CoaxCenter 6000 also achieves extremely high productivity: The output of this machine is at least three times higher than with manual and semi-automatic processes, and all this with considerably lower personnel and handling requirements and in perfect quality.

This is the first year that the productronica Innovation Award was conferred. It is presented by the productronica trade fair in cooperation with the productronic trade journal. The independent award panel consisted of Professor Klaus-Dieter Lang from the Frauenhofer Institut IZM, Professor Mathias Nowottnick from the University of Rostock, Dr. Martin Oppermann from the Dresden University of Technology, Professor Lothar Pfitzner from the Frauenhofer Institut IISB, Dr. Eric Maiser from the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), and Christoph Stoppok from the Association of the Electrical Engineering and Electronics Industry (ZVEI).

VarioTAP® processor emulation for Texas Instruments AM355x family

GOEPEL electronic extends the VarioTAP® technology for universal processor emulation for the Texas Instruments AM355x family of the Sitara™ series. The processor is reconfigured to provide design-integrated test and programming instruments via the native debug port. A respective VarioTAP® model, as part of an extensive IP library, contains all relevant access information for the respective target processor. On this basis, users can select a processor corresponding to their design and be able to test and validate the connected hardware unit as well as program Flash memories.

The new VarioTAP® model offers these techniques for the AM355x family from Texas Instruments. These processors allow designs with many features including lower power consumption. Main areas of application are automotive, industrial and consumer electronics. The processors are based on a 32-bit ARM Cortex A8 RISC architecture with clock frequencies up to 1.0 GHz. They are integrated into miniaturized housings as BGA components with up to 324 Pins, not allowing direct contacting to external instruments. VarioTAP® can be utilized to provide design-integrated tools for test, hardware debug, Flash programming and design validation after chip mounting.

 

About VarioTAP®:

VarioTAP® is a technology for processor emulation developed by GOEPEL electronic. “FLY-BY-WIRE” INTEGRATION TEST BENCH

EIIT has delivered in July to Airbus Defence & Space an integration bench to test the capabilities of the control units in charge of the hydraulic servo actuators for the rudder and the elevators in order to upgrade the navigation system of the aircrafts to a fly-by-wire system.

This bench is made up one 19”rack where the following elements are mounted:  three airborne control units, one VME based simulation system, one patching panel for signal monitoring, two Ethernet switches, for internal interconnection plus connection to the external laboratory network, plus the corresponding power distribution units.

The bench is powered by SEAS System, SEAS v3.3 version, software System developed by   Airbus DS.

The VME instrumentation hardware is designed to monitor /simulate the following signals: 39 ARINC 429 buses, 87 discrete signals, 6 analog signals, 9×6 wires LVDT sensors, 6 x 4 wires LVT sensors, 6 x 5 wires RVDT sensors, 6 RS232 buses and 2 CAN buses.

All the signals and buses have been functionally tested prior to the delivery of the system and the LVDT simulation outputs have been tested to accuracies in the range of 0,275% to 0,85%, giving an absolute value in accuracy of 9 mV to 16 mV.

All-embracing solution for in-system programming

GOEPEL electronic announces the extension of the AFPG (Automated Flash Program Generator) for the world’s only solution to support all ISP options (In-System Programming) in one tool. The AFPG is a tool for the automatic generation of scripts for universal in-system programming of non-volatile memory such as flash devices, and also microcontrollers with integrated flash, via boundary scan. The ISP programs mounted devices directly in the native environment, not as individual components before assembly.

The new Version of the AFPG now also supports universal in-system programming of NAND™ flash devices, Phase Change Memories (PCM), OneNAND™ components, FPGA embedded instruments as well as connected processors, via Boundary Scan,. The AFPG tool provides a graphical definition of the command sequence, various possibilities for bad block handling, multi-site support and a corresponding block library with more than 1000 types which work perfectly together with the hardware integrated SPACE architecture.

The new AFPG tool essentially allows cost and time advantages. In-system programming saves costs for socket adaption and external equipment. Production logistics is simplified and storage costs can be reduced. High programming speed and an extremely high degree of automation also ensure time savings. Furthermore, ISP procedures can be openly combined with other testing and processing functions on one platform due to the architecture of SYSTEM CASCON™. Using the appropriate SCANFLEX TAP transceiver, multiple boards can be programmed at the same time (SFX-TAP16/G up to 16 boards).
